Happy September! Here’s what we were up to in August –
We received £1,550.45 from 95 financial contributors, and we spent £2,391.13. Our current balance is £10,709.10.
First, we would like to share an extra thank you to Shash – one of our co-founders – who is stepping away from TAC. Shash has put an immense amount of work into TAC, and we’re thankful she will still be around through the Trans Safety Network! Please join us in sending endless thanks to her for her work.
Speaking of change, here is our recent announcement about TAC restructuring just in case you missed it:
TAC is going through changes! We’d like to give you an update on how TAC is running and what that means for you. We’ll get right to the most important parts first.
TAC doesn’t have enough volunteers to maintain our current level of service. We have seen too many of us fall to burnout. We very much want to keep going, and will re-organise to help facilitate this. This requires scaling all our operations down, to a more sustainable level.
Unfortunately, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease Emergency Grants, and the last EG round we do will be on September 15th. We understand that many TIN people rely on us for support, but running these grants takes up a lot of volunteer time and is often difficult emotional work, and we’re not currently able to offer our service users the kind of care and protection we’d like to. The money allocated to emergency grants will be added to the general grant pot. We intend to return to Emergency Grants once we’ve reached a more sustainable position with our volunteers.
General grants will not be affected. We expect that there will be a pick up in requests as emergency grants stop.
We are going to stop our Saturday daytime meetups. The final meetup was September 7th, 1-4pm. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us! The meetups have seen declining attendance lately – we will rethink and come back with something that is more enticing to the community.
We will continue with our swim meets until at least January 10th, 2025. We have seen good attendance on those and we are able to continue to host them. They will not be affected.
The meal share scheme will continue as is. They will not be affected.
Over the next few weeks you will hear more messaging from us about the reorganization. We will advertise volunteer roles that we are recruiting for. We want to be clear on what you can expect from us, and what we’d expect of you.
There is a possibility that we will not be able to reform in a way that is sustainable. If that happens, we shall put more messaging out so that everyone is aware of the timelines to minimise any impact on you.
Now for our regular announcements:
On August 9th, we had our Big Splash event! These events are always a blast and allow us as trans, intersex, and nonbinary people to have a space to swim or use a gym. Transmasc and nonbinary adults (ages 18+) are welcome to swim without a swim top. Join us for our next one on 13th September! These are usually held on the second Friday of each month. Of course, another big shoutout to @NotaPhaseOrg for supporting this event! The suggested donation amount is £5.50, and there are free tickets available. These have been especially popular lately, and we can’t wait to see you!
On 10th August, we had our monthly Cardiff meetup. Thank you to everyone who attended, and thank you as always to @NotAPhaseOrg for funding and collaborating with us on these free sober socials!
Coming up, there will be a national march on 5th October to commemorate nearly one year of genocide against Palestinians. The march will begin at 1PM at Canal Quarter in Cardiff. Find more information here: https://x.com/BLMCardiff/status/1830609233177682075
Thank you for your continued support as we restructure. We’ll be back next month with our next update.
In solidarity,
Your TAC Team
