HISTORY
Trans Aid Cymru began life as a local mutual aid group in Cardiff, called South Wales Trans Non-binary Mutual Aid (or SWTN Mutual Aid). We set up in June 2020 after the Conservative Government scrapped the promised GRA reform.
We were tired of the ways that the electoral political system has let the trans community down and decided it was time to do something for ourselves. Many of our founding members are disabled and unemployed; all of us were living paycheck to paycheck. We were very familiar with the real, material needs of our community and how little support there was out there, so we founded the mutual aid group in order to provide the services our community needed.
None of us could have imagined what the organisation would grow into, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. But we also recognise there is still so much work to do.

ETHOS
“Mutual aid: a voluntary reciprocal exchange or resources and services for mutual benefit.”
At the core of what we do is the fundamental principle of mutual aid: that we are all responsible for caring for one another and changing our conditions. We can’t wait for any political system or charity to save us. We have to help each other.
Within Mutual Aid groups everyone can contribute their strengths, even the most vulnerable, and everyone in the community benefits from our efforts. We believe in horizontal solidarity that creates permanent systems of support, and we believe in self-determination instead than top-down philanthropy.
Trans Aid Cymru is a non-hierarchal organisation made up of trans, intersex and non-binary people. Many of our service users are also involved in volunteering and running projects, and we greatly encourage trans, intersex and non-binary people across Wales to get involved as volunteers as well as service users.
Geography
While most of our members are based in Cardiff and Swansea and most of our current service users are based in South Wales, we are committed to the community of trans, intersex, and non-binary (TIN) people throughout Wales.
All of our grants are available to people in all areas of Wales, as are all of our non-site-specific projects such as the correspondence scheme, all of our online resources, and the trans GP map.
While we acknowledge that many organisations that are supposed to serve all of Wales are often focused in the South, particularly around the Cardiff area, we don’t want anybody to feel that they can’t access our services, or contribute to our work, because they live far away. We are here for trans, intersex and non-binary people across all of Wales.
We’re really interested in working with TIN folks throughout Wales! If you are interested in helping support our services in different areas of Wales you can email us at [email protected] or check out our join us page.

Meet The Team
Co-Administrators and Managers

Sammy (they/them)
Sammy has been working with TAC as a volunteer since its early days in 2020. They’ve mostly worked in the finance and admin side of things at TAC, and In Sep 2024 they took on the role as a paid freelance Administrator and Manager alongside Eve. They’re passionate about working towards the liberation of TIN people in Wales and want to help facilitate an organisation that embodies radical values of inclusion, justice, and anti-capitalism. When they’re not doing work for TAC they’re usually found doing one of their other million freelance jobs, or playing with their cats.
Eve (She/Her)
Eve has been a part of TAC since 2021, was mostly involved in events and outreach due to being based out in Aberystwyth at the time, now based in South Wales has gone over to the admin of TAC, handling the welfare of the Team and writing policy alongside Sammy. She has a love for the community and wants to support and be there for all that need it. Away from TAC you will never find her standing still, always involved in one thing or another but always there for those that need her.

Team Leads

Georgia (they/them)
Service User Grants Team Lead
Georgia has been volunteering for TAC since 2022 in the Grants team, and has been Team Lead since June. When not at work or beavering away on various spreadsheets, they can be found winding up their cat or writing gay little screenplays.
Trinity (they/them, she/her)
IT Team Lead
Trinity started volunteering for TAC in 2024, leading the IT team in developing & maintaining our tech stack. When they’re not tinkering on servers with the team, or writing code in their work as a video game developer, Trinity spends her time playing the trombone & rambling about whatever random subject of interest she has picked up recently.

Sof (he/they)
Events Team Lead
Sof has been volunteering with TAC since October 2024. Sof manages the organising and hosting of events and ensures everything runs smoothly. When Sof isn’t helping put events on, he loves to work on his craft projects or putting more hours into whichever video game he’s currently obsessing over.
Dan (they/them)
Social Media Team Lead
Dan has been volunteering with TAC since 2021 all the way from the US! They write the monthly newsletter and organise the social media posts. They’re currently a PhD student studying Public Health and completing their research studying access to healthcare for TIN people in Wales. When they’re not working on socials or immigration bits to finally join the rest of the team, they’re teaching LGBTQ+ Studies at their uni and binge watching TV shows.

Amo (he/him)

Amo joined the TAC volunteer team in October 2024. His main objective is to efficiently triage the TAC inbox and ensure that our enquiries team are happy and able to confidently reply to queries.
