October Newsletter

Happy Spooky Season, everyone!

Here’s what we were up to in September:

We received £3,010.57  in donations from 117 contributors and we spent £3,488.75. We have £10,962.92 left in our main pot and £170 in our Fund For Wales Grant.

We kicked off the month with Llandovery Pride which was lovely. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Once again, we’ve continued to have an absolute blast at our Swim & Gym events. Thanks to everyone who joined us on the 12th and 26th of last month and the 10th of this month! Our next Swim & Gym event will take place on the 24th of this month. As a reminder, swimmers are welcome to swim without a swim top. We have access to a full gym, as well. As always, many thanks to Not a Phase for collaborating with us on these events!

We’ve also been having a lovely time at our hobby meetups! Many thanks to all of our attendees on the 3rd and 17th of September (and the first of this month!) – we’re glad to see these events taking off! This month, we’d love for you to join us on the 15th! Keep an eye on our Instagram or reach out to us if you’d like to join us in the future. Don’t forget – we have snacks and drinks to share at these!

We have two bits of information to share this month. Please note that this information is accurate as of the day we received it but that the information is likely to change over time.

The first bit of information is a list of the BMI limits for various surgeons. You can find that information received through a Freedom of Information Act request on 18th September here: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/transgender_surgeries_bmi_data/response/3159743/attach/html/2/FoI.25.524%20Gender%20Affirming%20Surgeries%20Final%20Response.pdf.html

The second bit of information is a list of the wait times for local gender teams as of the end of April 2025:

Aneurin Bevan 13 months

Betsi Cadwalar 19 months

Cardiff & Vale 12 months

Swansea 12 months

Cwm Taf 8-9 months

Hywel Dda 6 months

Powys 3 months

Now for an announcement I (Dan, your newsletter writer!) have been wishing to state for a few years now… Over the past few years, I’ve been working alongside other TAC folks to develop a research study that will be useful to us going forward. Finally, I have just entered the research portion of my doctoral training and can start the ethics approval!  I’ve gathered information from the Queer Manifesto for Wales, the kinds of aid offered through TAC, and other research to form a study looking at how we access the care we need as TIN people and how mutual aid supports us. Keep an eye here for updates.

One external announcement this month:

Health Inspectorate Wales (HIW) is seeking feedback on their 2026-2030 strategy! If you have a moment, please consider completing their survey in English or Cymraeg: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ULH25K/

That’s all for this month. Keep taking good care of yourselves and each other, and we’ll see you again next month!

In solidarity,

Your TAC Team
